Generator Repairs, Servicing and Maintenance in Springs

We repair, service and maintain generators across Springs, on site: production and engineering sets in Nuffield, New Era and Enstra, home generators in Selection Park, Selcourt and Strubenvale, and diesel sets on the farms and smallholdings around the town. Springs lies on the eastern side of Ekurhuleni, where sites are spread out and many sets stand idle for long spells between outages, so we work with dust, distance and stored fuel in mind.

Mining and farmland

Mining roots, heavy industry and open farmland

Springs was founded on coal and grew on gold, and old mining land still surrounds the town. Industry took over as the mines closed: Nuffield, New Era and Enstra now hold manufacturing plants, engineering works and warehouses with heavy electrical loads.

Beyond the suburbs the land opens into farms and smallholdings, south towards Nigel and east towards the Mpumalanga border. A single day’s work around Springs can run from a large standby set behind a factory to a small open-frame diesel on a borehole.

Springs is the easternmost town with its own page in our Ekurhuleni coverage. Benoni lies to the north-west, with Brakpan between the two, and we cover both.

Farms and smallholdings

Farm generators that must not fail

On a farm, an outage quickly becomes a loss: poultry houses need ventilation, dairies need milk cooling, and boreholes supply livestock and irrigation. Where animals depend on the power, the generator should start automatically through a changeover and be tested regularly under real load, not just idled.

Farm sets also work in harder conditions than town sets. Dust clogs air filters and radiators, rodents chew wiring and fuel lines, and a set that stands unused for months can come back with a flat battery and water in its fuel. Diesel kept in drums or an old tank is the usual source of that water, and of the diesel bug that blocks filters. See diesel fuel contamination.

  • Auto-start and changeover tested
  • Air filters, radiators and wiring checked for dust and rodent damage
  • Water separators drained and fuel filters renewed
  • Battery and charger proved before the next outage

Long running hours and lightly loaded sets

Some Springs plants run their generators for long hours during extended load shedding or a lengthy supply failure, and hours add up quickly on a set used this way: oil and filter changes fall due by the hour meter rather than the calendar, and wet stacking builds up when a set runs for hours on a small fraction of its rating.

A maintenance programme sets intervals by running hours and includes periodic load testing, so a set that carries a plant through a long outage is still healthy at the end of it. A set that only stands by needs a service at the interval in its manufacturer’s schedule and regular test runs. If something does fail, we carry out the repair on site.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you come out to farms and smallholdings around Springs?

Yes. Send a location pin when you book, tell us what the generator powers, and mention it if the access road is rough. A photo of the nameplate and the controller screen helps us bring the right parts.

Should a farm generator start automatically?

Where livestock, milk cooling or cold rooms depend on it, yes. An automatic changeover means the set starts and takes the load even when nobody is on the farm. See standby generators.

Our factory generator leaves oily black residue at the exhaust. Is that serious?

It is often wet stacking from running lightly loaded, which a sustained run at a higher load can clear. It can also point to worn injectors or a restricted air supply, so we diagnose the cause before recommending anything. See generator smoke.

Do you cover KwaThema and Brakpan?

Yes, along with the rest of Springs, Brakpan and the farms towards Nigel. Free callouts and quotations.
