Generator Repairs, Servicing, Maintenance and Specialist Work

We repair, service and maintain generators on site across Gauteng, from portable units to large standby and prime-power sets. Book a repair when something has gone wrong, a service when the generator is due, and a maintenance plan to keep it ready all year. Specialist services go deeper into one system, such as the AVR, the controller, the fuel system or the alternator windings, and cover emergency callouts, load testing and new installations.

  • Repairs: a fault to find and fix
  • Servicing: one visit when it is due
  • Maintenance: a planned programme, all year
  • Specialist work: one system, in depth

Core services

Start with the core service you need

Three different jobs. Pick the one that matches what your generator needs today.
  1. 01 · When something has gone wrong

    Generator Repairs

Finding and fixing a fault on site when the generator will not start, run, carry the load or make the right power.

    Typical reasons

    • Will not crank, or cranks but will not fire
    • Runs but gives no power, or the voltage or frequency is unstable
    • Overheating, leaks, smoke or a shutdown alarm
    • Trips when load comes on, or the changeover will not transfer

    What it involves

    • Fault finding on the engine, fuel system, alternator, AVR and controls
    • A free quotation before work starts
    • The repair, then a test run under load where possible
    Report a fault
  2. 02 · One visit, when it is due

    Generator Servicing

A single scheduled visit when the running hours or the date say a service is due: oil, filters, checks and a test run.

    Typical reasons

    • The hour meter has reached the service interval
    • A year has passed on a standby set that seldom runs
    • Load shedding or long outages have brought the hours interval round early
    • The generator has stood unused for months

    What it involves

    • Engine oil changed, with the oil and fuel filters where the engine has them
    • Air filter cleaned or replaced, spark plugs on petrol and gas engines, water drained from a diesel’s separator
    • Coolant, belts, battery and charger checked where fitted
    • A test run and a summary of what was found
    Book a service
  3. 03 · An ongoing plan, all year

    Generator Maintenance

An ongoing plan of services, inspections and test runs, scheduled around how the generator is used, with a record of every visit.

    Typical reasons

    • Backup power your home, business or site cannot be without
    • Daily running through load shedding, with hours to track between services
    • Several generators or sites to look after
    • You want service dates tracked and a history of the work

    What it involves

    • An agreed schedule, by running hours and by date
    • Inspections, test runs and changeover checks between services
    • Records for every visit
    • Faults found early and quoted before they cause a failure
    Discuss a maintenance plan

How it fits together

Where specialist services come in

Most work starts with one of the three core services. A repair visit begins with fault finding, and when the cause turns out to sit in one system, such as the AVR, the controller or the fuel system, the repair becomes specialist work on that system. A service or maintenance visit often finds the same faults earlier, before they stop the generator.

You can also book a specialist service directly when you already know the problem: a controller that shows the same alarm after every start, voltage that hunts, a diesel delivery that has gone bad, or a standby set that has only ever run lightly and needs proving under load. Installation is separate again: a new or replacement generator, sized to the load and connected through a changeover.

Load shedding blurs the lines. A generator running every day reaches its service interval in months rather than a year, and every outage is another start for the battery and another transfer for the changeover. That is when a maintenance plan scheduled by running hours makes more sense than waiting for the next breakdown.

FAQ

Choosing a generator service

Which service do I need?

If the generator has a fault, you need a repair. If it is working but due for oil, filters and checks, book a service. If you want it looked after on a schedule all year, ask about maintenance. Not sure? Call us and describe what it is doing.

When do I need a specialist service rather than a general repair?

You do not have to decide. Book a repair and the fault finding shows whether the cause sits in one system, such as the AVR, the controller or the fuel system. If you already know, for example because the controller shows the same alarm after every start, or a fuel delivery was contaminated, ask for the specialist service directly.

Is a maintenance plan just regular servicing?

It includes servicing, but adds what happens in between: inspections, test runs, changeover checks and a record of every visit, scheduled by running hours as well as by date. A one-off service suits a generator that seldom runs; a plan suits one your home or business cannot be without.

Do you only work on diesel generators?

No. All generator makes and models: diesel, petrol and gas, from portable units to large standby sets. 1 kVA–20,000 kVA capability.

Are callouts and quotations free for every service?

Yes. Free callouts and quotations apply to every service, and no work starts until you approve the quotation.

Do you offer emergency callouts outside office hours?

Yes. We take emergency callouts 24/7, including nights, weekends and public holidays, so a generator that fails during an outage does not have to wait for office hours.

Is every service available across Gauteng?

Yes, in every region we cover: Johannesburg, Pretoria & Centurion, Ekurhuleni / East Rand, West Rand and Vaal Triangle / Sedibeng. Diagnosis, servicing and most repairs happen where the generator stands; when a part needs a workshop, such as an alternator going for a rewind, we remove it and refit it afterwards.
