Generators we work on in Wynberg and Marlboro
Workshops and light industry: Industrial generator services
Three-phase sets carrying lathes, welders and compressors on the stands between the M1 and Alexandra.
Warehouses and distribution: ATS and changeover problems
Sets running dock doors, lights and dispatch; a stuck changeover holds every truck.
Panel beaters and the motor trade: Voltage problems
Compressors and spray-booth fans start heavily; a set near its limit dips the voltage and trips.
Wholesale and trade counters: Commercial generator services
Tills, card machines and lights, usually on a smaller silent diesel behind the shop.
Printing and small manufacturing: Surging and hunting
Presses and dryers want a steady frequency; a hunting governor spoils a run before anything trips.
Shared sets on one stand: Single vs three phase
One set and changeover feeding several units, with phases drifting out of balance.
Repairs
Generator faults we fix in Wynberg and Marlboro
AVR and voltage faults: Voltage problems
Low, high or swinging voltage from the AVR, exciter or rotating diodes.
Fuel and injector faults: Fuel system repairs
Contaminated diesel, blocked filters, air in the lines, lift pumps and injectors.
ATS and changeover problems
The set runs but the building stays dark, or the load never returns to the mains.
Overheating
Shutdowns from blocked radiators, failed fans, thermostats and coolant leaks.
Battery and charging faults: Battery not charging
Chargers, charge alternators and batteries that cannot crank the set when the mains fails.
Surging and hunting
Engine speed that wanders: governors, actuators, fuel supply and air leaks.

Local conditions
Older stands between the M1 and Alexandra
The City lists Wynberg and Marlboro among Region E’s industrial areas, and many stands here are older. On such a stand the set may have been added long after the building, wherever there was room, and may feed more than one unit through a board nobody has drawn.
So the first hour is tracing, not replacing: which board the set feeds, which motor starts first, and whether the kVA still matches the load. A set sized for a print shop will not also start a panel beater’s compressor.
- Changeover and boards traced before parts are ordered
- Starting current of the largest motor measured
- Load on each phase logged
Every make
Makes we repair on Wynberg and Marlboro stands
We Service & Repair All Generator Brands. Workshop and warehouse sets typically run Perkins, Cummins, Deutz or Doosan engines with Stamford or Mecc Alte alternators and Deep Sea Electronics or SmartGen controllers; trade counters lean on silent diesels from Bundu Power, Kipor or Pramac. A nameplate photo tells us which parts to bring; see our brand pages.
Response
On site in Wynberg and Marlboro in 1–2 hours
Technicians on site in 1–2 hours, 24/7. Marlboro Drive links the area to both the M1 and the N3, so a technician comes in from whichever is moving; the Marlboro Gautrain station marks the edge of the industrial area. Tell us the stand, the gate or roller door, and where the set stands.
While you wait, check only the fuel gauge, emergency stop, main breaker and controller screen, switch the biggest motors off and stop after two presses of start. The changeover and fuel lines are a technician’s work; WhatsApp the screen and nameplate, and see emergency generator repair for a night call.
Prevention
Why a Wynberg or Marlboro set breaks down twice
The second callout usually has the first one’s cause behind it: a new AVR fitted under the same unbalanced phases, filters changed while water still sits in the drum the set is filled from, a changeover contact cleaned when it needed replacing. Our report lists what else we saw.
Servicing removes those causes. The Wynberg and Marlboro generator service and maintenance page explains a service at a workshop, warehouse or print shop and the plans for landlords and tenants. Our repair process shows how a fault is traced; the same technicians work in Linbro Park, Alexandra and Sunninghill and Woodmead, and across the Sandton hub.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Our compressor trips the generator every time it starts. Can you fix that?
Usually. A motor starting direct-on-line draws several times its running current; we measure it against the set’s kVA and say whether staggered starts, a soft starter or a bigger set is the cure. See shutting down or tripping.
Several units share one generator on our stand. Who gets the report?
Whoever books the work, usually the owner or managing agent. We trace which units the set feeds, log the load on each phase and leave a written report that can be shown to every tenant.
The lights work on generator power but the spray booth and machines stay off. Why?
Often a lost phase: a blown fuse, a failed contactor pole or a loose terminal in the changeover leaves single-phase loads running and three-phase motors dead. It is a technician’s job; see running but no power.
We fill the set from drums. Could that be why it loses power under load?
Quite possibly. A drum opened and refilled collects water and dirt, which block the filters and starve the injection pump when the load rises. We sample the fuel first; see diesel fuel contamination.
