Bundu Power Silent Diesel, Petrol and Inverter Generators Repaired on Site

We repair and service Bundu Power generators where they stand, anywhere in Gauteng: the yellow single-phase silent diesels outside homes, estates and shops, the three-phase sets at businesses and farms, and the petrol and inverter units. Most calls are a set that did not start when the power failed, a flat battery or a changeover that did not switch. We find the cause and quote before any repair.

The Bundu Power range, from the carport to the plant room

Bundu Power is a South African generator brand. The sets we meet most are its single-phase silent diesels: an acoustic canopy with a diesel engine and alternator inside, a starter battery, a fuel tank and a control panel, standing outside homes, at estate gatehouses and behind shops like the two yellow canopies in our photos.

The range runs from single-phase sets of about 5 kVA, at 3,000 rpm or 1,500 rpm, to three-phase canopies from about 20 kVA to well over 1,000 kVA, plus open-frame petrol generators, inverter-type petrol units and automatic changeover panels. The smallest sets carry the maker’s own-branded engines; larger sets use engines from makers such as FAW, Perkins and Baudouin, with a SmartGen controller on some silent sets and a Deep Sea module on the larger three-phase models. The engine plate, alternator plate and controller front say which is in yours.

The repairs we do most on Bundu Power sets

Each card leads to the fault guide for that symptom.

Read the label before you call

The model label on the canopy, like the BP11000S label in this photo, names the model; the engine plate and the controller front give the rest. Photograph all three and note the hours; the technician visit guide lists what else helps.

What a service on a Bundu Power set covers

Intervals come from the engine manual in running hours, with at least one service a year on a set that mostly waits. Heavy load shedding brings the hours up fast, so go by the hour count, not the date; maintenance plans keep it on schedule.
  1. 01

    Plates and hours

The plates and the hour reading decide the oil grade, filters and parts list.

  2. 02

    Engine oil and filters

Oil drained warm and replaced with the manual’s grade; oil, fuel and air filters changed; water drained from the filter bowl.

  3. 03

    Fuel and cooling

Fuel lines and tank checked for leaks, water and sludge; fins and fan on an air-cooled engine, or coolant, hoses and belt on a water-cooled one.

  4. 04

    Battery, charger and controller

Battery load-tested, charger output measured, terminals cleaned; controller settings, alarm log and hour count checked and the auto-start proved.

  5. 05

    Canopy and changeover

Louvres and exhaust clear, door seals sound, earth checked; a simulated mains failure proves the changeover panel starts the set and takes the load.

  6. 06

    Run under load

Voltage and frequency measured under load, then the report and a quote for anything found.

Three-phase Bundu Power sets at businesses and farms

Above the home sizes, Bundu Power’s three-phase canopies serve shops, small factories, farms and borehole pumps, with a water-cooled engine from FAW, Perkins or Baudouin, an alternator with its own AVR and a controller that can run an automatic changeover. Single-phase loads should be spread evenly across the three phases, as single versus three-phase explains, and a set that stalls when the borehole pump starts may simply be too small; the kVA sizing guide shows the arithmetic.

Petrol and inverter Bundu Power generators

The open-frame petrol sets and the quieter inverter units are the portable end of the range, for flats, townhouses and sites where a silent diesel would be too much. They share the faults of any small petrol engine: stale fuel, a fouled plug, a low-oil cut-out that stops the engine on a slope. The inverter units make their 50 Hz electronically, which is why they run sensitive electronics and some hybrid solar inverters that a conventional petrol set cannot; when one gives no output, the inverter module and its cooling are the first suspects. See portable and inverter generators and petrol generators.

Parts, and the other makes we see beside them

Every part is looked up from the plates, not the colour of the canopy: a part made for the set where one is available, otherwise a quality part of the same specification, and the quote names which. A new set’s warranty is between you and the seller; check it before booking repair work on a recent machine.

We Service & Repair All Generator Brands. The same homes and estates run silent diesels from Kipor, Mac Afric and Pramac, and the faults on this page apply to all of them.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why did my Bundu Power silent diesel not start when load shedding started?

Look at the controller first: it must be in auto, and any alarm on the screen says why it stopped. A flat battery is the most common cause on a set that waits weeks between outages, then a changeover panel that never sent the start signal. If it cranks but will not fire, suspect air or water in the fuel. Do not keep cranking; see generator not starting.

Is a 1,500 rpm Bundu Power set better than a 3,000 rpm one?

A 1,500 rpm set turns a four-pole alternator at half the speed, so it runs cooler and quieter and wears less for every hour it runs, which is why the larger and longer-running sets use it. A 3,000 rpm set is lighter and smaller and does fine on a few load-shedding hours a day, as long as its oil is changed by the hour meter. See service intervals and oil care.

Why does my hybrid solar inverter refuse the power from my Bundu Power generator?

Most hybrid inverters accept a generator supply only within a narrow band of voltage and frequency, and a set whose speed wanders with the load falls outside it. On a diesel set we check the governor and AVR and set the speed under load; an inverter-type petrol generator makes a steady 50 Hz electronically and is accepted more readily. See frequency and speed problems.
