Works, older suburbs and a township on the western side
WF Nkomo Street, once Church Street West, leads from the CBD into Pretoria West. Much of it is working ground: manufacturing, logistics, automotive and distribution firms in the Pretoria West and Hermanstad industrial areas, around the City of Tshwane’s coal-fired power station of 1952, which was producing nothing when the council approved plans to lease it out in 2024.
Beside the industry lie older working suburbs of free-standing homes, Danville, Elandspoort and Proclamation Hill among them, with Hercules, Pretoria Gardens and Daspoort to the north-west. Further west is Atteridgeville, established in 1939, whose first residents were moved from Marabastad in 1940; Saulsville adjoins it, Lotus Gardens lies next door and Kalafong Hospital stands beside it.
So the generator changes from street to street. In Hermanstad it is usually a three-phase diesel behind a yard gate, carrying machines and compressors. In Danville it is a home standby set or a portable. In Atteridgeville most are petrol portables and small diesels at homes, shops and taverns, with standby diesels at the shopping centres.

Faults that turn up in works, homes and the township alike
Starting surges on works sets: Voltage problems
A starting compressor or vehicle lift pulls a heavy current, and a slow AVR or a set sized for an earlier tenant lets the voltage sag.
Portables left with old petrol: Petrol generators
Between outages an Atteridgeville portable keeps petrol in its carburettor, where it turns to varnish. Run it outdoors, and never plug it into a wall socket.
Batteries on sets that stand: Battery not charging
School, church and warehouse sets can wait weeks for an outage, and a drifting charger or sulphated battery is why many will not crank.
Diesel from drums and containers: Fuel system repairs
Works refilling from drums and shops topping up from containers carry water and dirt into the tank, blocking filters and wearing injectors early.
Changeovers older than the set: ATS and changeover problems
Older Danville houses and re-let yards often keep a changeover panel older than the set; contacts stick and the building stays dark.
Small sets carrying too much: Shutting down or tripping
A tavern’s cold room or a workshop’s welder on one small set, or unevenly loaded phases, ends in heat and a trip mid-outage.
Servicing and maintenance across Pretoria West
Routine generator servicing counts most at the works and warehouses, whose sets carry machines through every daytime outage. A Danville home or school set runs far less, yet its battery, fuel and changeover still age. A run of load shedding, or a long local outage, brings every next service forward.
A maintenance plan fits the site: hour-meter services and loaded runs for diesel generators through Hermanstad and Danville servicing and plans; stale-fuel checks for portables and pre-term visits for churches and schools through Atteridgeville servicing and plans. Just south is the Laudium and Erasmia service page.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Which page covers Kwaggasrand, West Park or Lotus Gardens?
Kwaggasrand, West Park and Kirkney are on the Hermanstad and Danville generator repairs page. Lotus Gardens and Saulsville share the Atteridgeville generator repairs page, and Laudium is in the Centurion hub.
What kind of generator does a Pretoria West works usually run?
Usually a canopied three-phase diesel behind the yard gate, carrying machines, compressors or vehicle lifts. We measure each phase, watch the AVR as motors start and prove the changeover; see industrial generator services.
Can one plan cover a Hermanstad works and a shop in Atteridgeville?
Yes. Each set keeps its own schedule, by hour meter for the works diesel and by calendar for the shop’s small set, and one report lists every site. A maintenance plan can start with one site and add the others.
The power has been off since last night and our set has just stopped. What now?
Look at the fuel gauge, the main breaker and any controller alarm, and leave the start button alone after two tries so the battery keeps its charge. Photograph the screen and call us, 24/7; emergency generator repair explains night callouts.
Do you charge for the callout, and which makes do you repair?
Free callouts and quotations: we inspect the set and quote, and work starts only once you agree. We Service & Repair All Generator Brands, from a three-phase works diesel in Hermanstad to a home standby set in Danville or a petrol portable in Saulsville.
