Generator Servicing and Maintenance Plans, Area by Area
A generator service is the scheduled work that keeps a set reliable: oil and filters, coolant, battery, fuel system, a test run under load and a check of the changeover. A maintenance plan puts those services, with test runs and inspections between them, on a calendar so nothing is missed. Both are done on site, anywhere in Gauteng, and every area below has its own page with the local detail.

A service, or a maintenance plan?
Most generator breakdowns during load shedding have the same few causes: a battery that could not crank the engine, diesel that stood too long, a radiator that could not shed heat, or a changeover that stuck. A service catches all of them. The oil and filters are changed, the coolant, belts and hoses are checked, the battery and charger are tested, the fuel is checked for water and sludge, the output is measured under load and the changeover is operated. You get a written record of what was done and what to watch.
A maintenance plan is what happens between services. Most standby sets fail not because a service was done badly but because the next one was never booked: the set stood for months, nobody ran it, and the first outage of the season found the battery flat. On a plan, services fall due by running hours or by the calendar, test runs are done between them, and the records build up so a slow change, such as coolant that needs topping up every visit, is noticed before it becomes a shutdown. Generator servicing explains the work in a service; generator maintenance explains the plans.

FAQ
Questions about servicing and maintenance
What is the difference between a service and a maintenance plan?
A service is one visit: the oil and filters, coolant, battery, fuel system, alternator and controller are checked and the set is run under load. A maintenance plan is the schedule around it: services when the running hours or the calendar say so, test runs between them, and a record of every visit. See generator servicing and generator maintenance.
How often does a generator need a service?
By running hours or by time, whichever comes first, at the interval in the engine manufacturer’s schedule. A standby set that only runs on test reaches the time limit first, usually once a year; a set that runs through every load-shedding slot gains hours quickly and reaches the hours limit well before that. Our service intervals guide explains how to work it out for your set.
Do you service generators in my area?
Yes, anywhere in Gauteng. The list on this page has a page for each area with the local detail: the kinds of site we service there, access, and what we see most often. If your area is not listed yet, it is still covered: call or WhatsApp with the address.
Can one plan cover generators at several sites?
Yes. Each set keeps its own schedule, based on its running hours and the work it does, and visits are grouped by area so the sites are not all serviced on the same day. See commercial generator services for how we handle a portfolio of sites.
What do I need to have ready for a service visit?
Safe access to the set, the hour-meter reading and any service records, and a note of any alarms or recent faults. Tell us if a test run under load must be timed around the site’s work. Free callouts and quotations, so the first visit can also be a quotation. Preparing for a technician visit lists the rest.
