Generator Service & Maintenance in Moreleta Park, Before the Next Outage

We service and maintain generators across Moreleta Park, Elardus Park, Wingate Park and Pretorius Park: shared complex sets, home units, Woodhill Golf Estate houses, and the standby behind centres, churches and schools. Some run through every load-shedding slot; others stand for months.

Servicing

What a generator service in Moreleta Park includes

Here the checklist is mostly worked in a complex services yard or a side passage, so we clear leaves from the radiator and check the exhaust run near walls and windows. For a shared set, residents are warned before the test run.

  • Engine oil and filter, with the fuel, air and water-separator filters
  • Coolant level and condition, radiator, hoses and belts
  • Starting battery load-tested, charger output and terminals checked
  • Fuel system checked for leaks, water and contamination, tank to injectors
  • Alternator, AVR, output connections and earthing checked
  • Controller settings, alarms and hour meter recorded
  • Test run under load: voltage, frequency and temperatures
  • Changeover (ATS) operation confirmed where fitted

You get a written record of what was done and found. The full list is in our service checklist; generator servicing explains the work and a maintenance plan keeps it on schedule.

Intervals

How often to service a generator in Moreleta Park

We service at the engine manual’s interval, in running hours or months, whichever comes first. During load shedding a shared complex set reaches its hours first; home, church and school sets reach the calendar date first.

Shared complex setTypical runningEvery outage, carrying many unitsWhat brings the next service forwardRunning hours: a month of daily slots uses much of an interval

Church or school setTypical runningA few hours a week, lightly loadedWhat brings the next service forwardThe calendar, plus light running that risks wet stacking
Centre or healthcare standbyTypical runningEvery outage during trading, often for hoursWhat brings the next service forwardRunning hours, with the transfer tested each visit

Read the hour meter after a heavy load-shedding month; see our service intervals guide.

Two examples. A prime power set that runs every day reaches its running-hours interval first. A standby set that only runs on test barely gains hours, so the time interval is reached first. Intervals come from the engine manual, by hours and at least once a year.

Prevention

What a Moreleta Park service catches before the outage does

Nearly every Moreleta Park breakdown leaves a trace a service would find: a charger that has quietly stopped charging, water under the diesel in a complex tank, a changeover contactor pitted from switching every outage, or a coolant hose softening on a set that seldom runs.

If a set has already failed, our Moreleta Park generator repairs page covers the faults we fix there and what to tell us when you call. We also service sets in Mooikloof, Menlyn and Lynnwood and Faerie Glen, and across the Pretoria South suburbs and the wider Pretoria hub.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How often should our complex’s shared generator be serviced?

At the engine manual’s interval in hours or months, whichever comes first. A shared set running through daily load shedding can reach its hours within a few months, so ask the agent to read the meter monthly.

Our Woodhill house generator hardly runs. Does it still need a service?

Yes, at least once a year. Batteries, stored diesel, coolant and hoses age on standby, and the test run at the end of the service proves the set starts and carries the house.

Can the complex stay on mains power while the generator is serviced?

Mostly, yes. Oil, filters and checks are done with the set isolated while the mains supplies the units; only the transfer test moves the load, at a time agreed with the trustees.

Our school generator only runs lightly. Is that a problem?

It can be. A diesel run lightly for long periods can wet stack, leaving unburnt fuel in the exhaust. A run under proper load at each service helps; see wet stacking.
