A capital’s centre, a campus and a quiet valley
Pretoria Central is three different places on one municipal map. The city centre runs from Marabastad’s small shops and wholesalers on the western edge, past Church Square’s government offices and towers, to Arcadia, where the Union Buildings stand on Meintjieskop among embassies. Sunnyside and Arcadia hold dense high-rise flats, and the railway and Gautrain stations lie below Freedom Park on Salvokop.
Hatfield, often called Pretoria East but grouped with the CBD by the municipality, holds the University of Pretoria’s main campus, the Gautrain’s last stop, residences, offices and embassies. North of town the Moot fills a valley below the Magaliesberg with older homes on larger stands. So the set belongs to a building in the centre, a residence or kitchen in Hatfield, and a household, church or workshop in the Moot.

Common to the whole centre
Six faults we trace from Marabastad to Wonderboom South
Engine running, building still off: ATS and changeover problems
In Sunnyside towers and Hatfield residences, a sticking contactor or lost mains sensing stops the transfer: lifts and gates stay dead while the set idles.
Long idle spells, then a flat battery: Battery not charging
Mission sets wait for weeks, residences empty over the university holidays and Moot church sets run on Sundays. A drifting charger leaves the starter nothing.
Sags as motors start: Voltage problems
Lifts and booster pumps, Burnett Street cold rooms and Gezina workshop compressors pull hard on starting, and a tired AVR lets the voltage fall.
Basements and walled yards: Overheating
A tower set on a parking level or a home set boxed into a corner breathes its own hot air, so we check the air path first.
Day tanks and stored diesel: Fuel system repairs
Building sets need a transfer pump and float switch to refill the day tank; idle sets keep diesel for months. Either can starve an engine mid-outage.
Portables put away with fuel inside: Petrol generators
Marabastad traders, student flats and Moot garages keep petrol portables for outages, and stale petrol gums the carburettor until the set will not catch.
Servicing and maintenance across Pretoria Central
Government buildings usually contract generator maintenance through tenders, so generator servicing here is booked by tower owners, Sunnyside and Arcadia body corporates, missions, hotels, clinics, Hatfield’s residence landlords and restaurants, and Moot homeowners, schools and churches. Load shedding and long local outages after a cable or substation fault add hours fast, so the hour meter often calls the service before the calendar does.
A maintenance plan suits the mix: monthly runs under load for missions and clinics, body corporate schedules on the Pretoria CBD servicing and plans page, holiday visits for residences on the Hatfield servicing and plans page, and yearly services for homes and churches on the Pretoria Moot servicing and plans page.
Reaching your building
On site across Pretoria Central
WF Nkomo Street comes in from Pretoria West, the Gautrain links the station below Salvokop with Hatfield, and the roads through Gezina and Capital Park lead into the Moot. Technicians on site in 1–2 hours, 24/7, with an emergency callout at night.
Access takes longest: a mission’s security desk, a tower’s sign-in, the caretaker’s plant-room key or a Moot gate. Send the make, kVA and a controller photo, so the right parts come for a large diesel generator or a portable.
- Security, sign-in and keys arranged first
- Parking height and plant-room route confirmed
- Nameplate and controller photo sent ahead

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Hatfield is often called Pretoria East. Which page covers it?
The Hatfield generator repairs page, with Hillcrest and Colbyn. Sunnyside, Arcadia and Marabastad are on the Pretoria CBD generator repairs page; Gezina, Villieria and Wonderboom South on the Pretoria Moot generator repairs page.
Do you work on generators at government buildings in the city centre?
Government offices usually contract generator maintenance through tenders. Those calling us directly are tower owners, blocks of flats, missions, hotels, clinics and shops; commercial generator services explains how we work with building management.
Can one plan cover a Hatfield residence and a Sunnyside block?
Yes. Both go on one schedule, each serviced by its own hour meter and reported separately: the residence in the university holidays, the block once residents know a transfer test will pause the lifts. See residential generator services.
Gezina has been off all night and our set has stopped. What now?
Check the fuel, main breaker and emergency stop, photograph the controller screen, and stop cranking so the battery keeps some charge. Leave the changeover and fuel system to us, and keep any portable outdoors, never feeding a wall socket.
Is the callout free, and do you repair every make here?
Free callouts and quotations: you approve the quotation before work begins. We Service & Repair All Generator Brands, from the large diesels in towers around Church Square to a Burnett Street kitchen’s set or a Queenswood garage portable.
