Routine servicing in Midrand
Head-office campuses and office parks: Load bank testing
Systems feeding a UPS on every outage; the service ends with a campus-load run.
Logistics parks and warehouses: Industrial generator services
Sets that run every outage through under cold rooms and dock doors; fuel, filters and cooling take most of the visit.
Waterfall City, centres and venues: Commercial generator services
Landlord and tenant sets around the Mall of Africa and at Gallagher, serviced before trading or between events.
Complexes, estates and smallholdings: Residential generator services
Gate sets at Carlswald, Noordwyk and Waterfall complexes, estate homes, and Glen Austin borehole sets.
Servicing
What a generator service in Midrand includes
A Midrand service often begins with a permit to work at a logistics park or a contractor slip at an estate gate; yard sets collect dust garden sets never see.
- Engine oil and filter, with the fuel, air and water-separator filters
- Coolant level and condition, radiator, hoses and belts
- Starting battery load-tested, charger output and terminals checked
- Fuel system checked for leaks, water and contamination, tank to injectors
- Alternator, AVR, output connections and earthing checked
- Controller settings, alarms and hour meter recorded
- Test run under load: voltage, frequency and temperatures
- Changeover (ATS) operation confirmed where fitted
You get a written record of what was done and found. The full list is in our service checklist; generator servicing explains the work and a maintenance plan keeps it on schedule.
Intervals
When a Midrand generator is due a service
| The set | How it runs in Midrand | When the next service falls due |
|---|---|---|
| Campus or office-park system | How it runs in MidrandEvery office-hours slot, lightly loaded once the floors empty | When the next service falls dueBy hours in a heavy quarter, with a load run each service |
| Warehouse or logistics-park set | How it runs in MidrandEvery outage in full, under cold rooms | When the next service falls dueBy hours: a month of back-to-back slots uses the interval |
| Centre or venue set | How it runs in MidrandEvery trading-hours outage or event | When the next service falls dueBy hours in a spell, otherwise yearly, timed around trading |
| Complex gate set | How it runs in MidrandEvery outage under a small load | When the next service falls dueYearly at least, watched for wet stacking |
| Borehole set on a holding | How it runs in MidrandA few hours a month, then a week solid in a long outage | When the next service falls dueBy the calendar: diesel, battery and filters age regardless |
Our service intervals guide shows how to read the hour meter; diesel fuel contamination covers standing fuel.
Plans
Maintenance plans for Midrand
Campus and critical-standby plans: Load bank testing
For facilities managers: battery and charger checks between services, a monthly run under load, and voltage and frequency logged so drift is caught early.
Logistics and warehouse plans: Generator maintenance
For N1 parks: services by hour meter, fuel sampled and water drained each visit, radiators cleared of yard dust.
Centre and venue plans: Commercial generator services
For Waterfall City and the venues: services and test runs outside trading hours, with reports the insurer can read.
HOA, complex and smallholding plans: Generator servicing
For a gate set, estate home or borehole: one quotation and a test run that proves the boom lifts or the pump starts.

Prevention
Faults a Midrand service catches before the outage does
A Midrand service is tuned to the site: the warehouse set’s load run starts the conveyors and cold rooms together, so a voltage dip that would trip it mid-shift is measured now; the holding’s stored diesel is drained from the container bottoms; the gate set’s charger is metered at the battery; and every changeover is operated on live mains.
If the set has already failed, the Midrand generator repairs page covers the faults behind most callouts. The same plans run in Sunninghill and Woodmead and Fourways, across Midrand and in every area we service.
- Battery and charger tested under a crank
- Base-tank water drained before it reaches the pump
- Changeover operated before it is needed

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Our logistics park runs a permit-to-work system. How does a service fit in?
We send the technician’s details and method statement ahead, work inside the permit window and keep the set isolated except for the transfer test.
Our shop at a centre has its own set. Who services it, us or the landlord?
The lease usually says who owns the set. We service it either way and report to whoever books; a tenant set can join the landlord’s visit.
How often does a borehole set that runs a few hours a month need a service?
Yearly at least, with the stored diesel and water separator checked between services. Standing still is harder on a set than running: the charger cooks or starves the battery, water collects under the diesel and sediment blocks the filter.
Our campus set carries only servers and security lighting after hours. Is that a problem?
It can be. A diesel that runs for hours at a fraction of its rating never reaches full temperature and wet-stacks, wetting the exhaust and injectors with unburnt fuel. A monthly run under proper load burns it off; see wet stacking.
