Generator Service & Maintenance in Industria and Crown Mines, Timed Around the Shift

We service and maintain generators across Industria and Crown Mines: factory and engineering-works sets that run every daytime slot, fabricators’ sets that live with grinding dust, warehouse and trade-counter sets that stand for weeks, and workshop and transport-yard sets. Every visit is booked around the shift and written up.

Servicing

What a generator service in Industria and Crown Mines includes

An Industria service happens in a yard or plant room, booked for the hour the plant can spare; grinding dust, drum fuel and loads crowded onto one phase get extra attention, and the loaded run uses the plant itself.

  • Engine oil and filter, with the fuel, air and water-separator filters
  • Coolant level and condition, radiator, hoses and belts
  • Starting battery load-tested, charger output and terminals checked
  • Fuel system checked for leaks, water and contamination, tank to injectors
  • Alternator, AVR, output connections and earthing checked
  • Controller settings, alarms and hour meter recorded
  • Test run under load: voltage, frequency and temperatures
  • Changeover (ATS) operation confirmed where fitted

You get a written record of what was done and found. The full list is in our service checklist; generator servicing explains the work and a maintenance plan keeps it on schedule.

Intervals

When an Industria generator is due a service

A service falls due by hours or by the calendar, whichever the manual reaches first. In Industria the shift decides: a factory set running every daytime slot uses its hours within months; a trade-counter set goes by the calendar.
When an Industria generator is due a service
The setHow it runs in IndustriaWhen the next service falls due
Factory or engineering-works setHow it runs in IndustriaEvery daytime slot under machine tools and compressorsWhen the next service falls dueBy hours, sometimes inside a quarter
Fabricator’s setHow it runs in IndustriaBursts of welder load, in grinding dustWhen the next service falls dueBy hours, radiator and air filter cleared each visit
Warehouse or trade-counter setHow it runs in IndustriaEach outage, under a light loadWhen the next service falls dueYearly at least, plus a loaded run to burn off wet stacking
Transport-yard or workshop setHow it runs in IndustriaEvery outage, fuelled from drumsWhen the next service falls dueBy hours in a heavy month, otherwise yearly, fuel sampled each visit

Our service intervals guide reads the hour meter against the manual; wet stacking explains why light running harms a diesel.

Two examples. A prime power set that runs every day reaches its running-hours interval first. A standby set that only runs on test barely gains hours, so the time interval is reached first. Intervals come from the engine manual, by hours and at least once a year.

Prevention

What an Industria service catches before the outage does

A service here is tuned to the plant: the loaded run starts the compressor and big welder together, so a dip that would trip the set mid-shift is measured now; the radiator and air filter are cleared of grinding dust; drum diesel is sampled and water drained before the lift pump pulls it through; and the changeover is cycled on live mains between shifts.

When the set has already stopped, our Industria and Crown Mines generator repairs page covers the faults we fix most. The same plans run in Ormonde and Aeroton, Fordsburg and Mayfair and Auckland Park and Melville, across Johannesburg and on our service index.

  • Phase currents logged under the real plant load
  • Radiator and filters cleared of workshop dust
  • Drum fuel sampled, water drained

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you service our factory generator without stopping the line?

Yes. The engine side of the service needs the set stopped, not the line, so the plant stays on mains; production feels only the loaded run and changeover test, booked between shifts. We work 24/7.

Our fabrication shop fills the generator with grinding dust. How often does it need attention?

More often than the manual suggests. The radiator and air filter are cleared at every service and checked between visits on a plan; a packed radiator overheats the set on the first hot afternoon.

We fuel the set from drums in the yard. Does that change the service?

It adds a step: drum diesel collects condensation and dirt, so each visit samples drums and tank, drains water and changes filters more often; see diesel fuel contamination.

Can you check that the set is big enough while you service it?

Yes. The loaded run measures each phase as the compressors and welders start, and the report says whether the set has margin; see the kVA sizing guide.
