Repairs

Generator faults we fix in Diepsloot

The usual Diepsloot call is a portable that will not start after weeks in a corner, stale petrol in its carburettor. Dirty fuel makes engines surge, worn AVRs leave sockets weak and air-cooled sets overheat on long trading evenings; batteries fail on electric-start diesels and Riversands sets.

Portables

Leads, fumes and petrol: running a portable safely in Diepsloot

Much of Diepsloot’s housing is informal, so few homes or shops have a fixed changeover; the set sits outside and feeds appliances through leads. A thin or coiled lead heats up under a fridge and kettle, and an overloaded set trips, stalls or burns its windings.

Keep the generator in the open, never in a shack, shop or backroom, and away from windows: its exhaust carries carbon monoxide, which gives no warning. Never fit a plug that pushes generator power into a wall socket; it makes the pins live and can feed the lines.

Response

On site in Diepsloot in 1–2 hours

Technicians on site in 1–2 hours, 24/7. William Nicol Drive (the R511) and the N14 both pass close by. Give us the extension and street or a landmark such as a school or church; at Riversands, the unit and who signs contractors in at the gate.

While you wait, switch the set off, unplug everything and let the engine cool. Stop pulling the starter on a set that coughs and dies, and leave the fuel tap, carburettor and wiring alone. WhatsApp a photo of the label or nameplate and we bring the likely parts; emergency generator repair explains a night call.

Every make

Makes we fix in Diepsloot and at Riversands

We Service & Repair All Generator Brands. In Diepsloot that means petrol and inverter portables from Ryobi, Kipor, Lutian and Mac Afric or on Honda engines, open-frame diesels with electric start, and silent diesels such as Bundu Power. At Riversands, warehouse sets typically pair a Perkins, Cummins or Deutz engine with a Stamford or Leroy-Somer alternator and a SmartGen or Deep Sea Electronics controller.

Prevention

Why a Diepsloot generator comes back with the same fault

A repair holds only if the habits around the set change. Petrol bought for one outage and left in the tank gums the new carburettor jets, an engine run every evening without an oil check wears out early, and a tavern set overloaded once will be overloaded again. When a cheap portable is past saving, we say so; see repair or replace.

Servicing is what stops the second breakdown. Our Diepsloot generator service and maintenance page covers plans for homes, shops, churches, clinics and the Riversands sets. How we repair generators explains the fault-finding; we also attend breakdowns in Fourways, Chartwell and Midrand, throughout Johannesburg North and across the Johannesburg hub.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The generator at our tavern cuts out when the cold room and speakers are on together. Why?

The load is more than the set gives, or a worn engine cannot hold speed as the compressor starts. We measure the load and check the governor. See shutting down or tripping.

Can I run the generator inside the shop at night so nobody takes it?

No. Carbon monoxide builds up indoors and kills without smell. Run it outside, away from doors and windows, and secure it with a chain or a vented cage.

Our petrol generator stood since the last outage and now will not start. Can it be fixed?

Usually, on site. Stale petrol blocks the jets and a fouled plug stops the spark. We drain the fuel, clean the carburettor, check oil and plug, and test under load.

Do you repair the standby generators at the Riversands warehouses and outlet stores?

Yes: three-phase diesel sets, their changeovers, battery chargers and controllers. Give us the unit and a contact so security clears the technician.

Do you charge to come out to a home or spaza shop in Diepsloot?

Free callouts and quotations: you hear what is wrong and what it costs before work starts.
