Generator Repairs in Parktown and Houghton for Blocks, Suites, Offices and Homes

Parktown and Houghton run three kinds of generator: plant-room sets behind Killarney’s lifts and pumps, standby sets at the medical suites, offices and campuses, and silent diesels on Houghton’s big stands. We repair all of them on site, with technicians on site in 1–2 hours.

Repairs

Generator faults we fix in Parktown and Houghton

Under a Killarney block the call is usually the changeover: the engine runs while the lifts stay stopped. On a Houghton stand it is a set that stood all summer and will not crank: batteries, chargers and stale diesel; the suites ring about voltage.

Local conditions

Basements under Killarney, gardens in Houghton

A Killarney block keeps its generator in a basement plant room or a corner of the parkade, wired through a changeover the trustees have never seen operate. The caretaker opens the door and a transfer test is booked for a quiet hour.

In Houghton Estate and Lower Houghton, on both sides of the M1, the set sits in a garden bed or beside the garage, idle for months and then expected to carry a whole house; we agree who will be home.

  • Plant rooms opened by the caretaker
  • Lifts and pumps proved back on mains
  • Idle home sets checked for stale diesel and a weak battery

Response

On site in Parktown and Houghton in 1–2 hours

Technicians on site in 1–2 hours, 24/7. Oxford Road, Jan Smuts Avenue and Louis Botha Avenue are the main routes and the M1 cuts through Killarney and Houghton, so a technician comes in from the city side or from Rosebank. Tell us the parkade height, or which gate to use.

Look at the fuel gauge, main breaker, emergency stop and controller message and nothing else; a set that fires and dies gets no more tries, and the changeover stays shut. A photo of the controller and nameplate puts the probable parts in the van; emergency generator repair covers the night call.

Every make

Makes we repair from Killarney to Westcliff

We Service & Repair All Generator Brands. Under the blocks and behind the offices that means canopied diesel sets on Perkins, Cummins or John Deere engines with Stamford or Leroy-Somer alternators and Deep Sea Electronics or ComAp controllers; on the stands, silent diesels from Kipor, Bundu Power, Pramac, SDMO and Mac Afric, and gas standby units whose LPG pipework is a registered gas installer’s work. Each has a brand page.

Prevention

Why a set here fails a second time

Sets come back to us when the cause outlives the repair: a Killarney block fits a new battery while its charger goes on overcharging, a Houghton set restarts on last year’s diesel, a reset contactor sticks again. Our report lists the rest.

Clearing that list is servicing: our Parktown and Houghton generator service and maintenance page covers the visit at a Killarney plant room, a medical suite or a Houghton home, the intervals load shedding imposes and the plans trustees and practice managers use. How a fault is traced is on generator repairs; next door we work in Rosebank, the Johannesburg CBD and Norwood and Orange Grove, and across Johannesburg.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Our Killarney block’s generator starts but the lifts stay off. Is it too small?

Usually not. The engine starts, so battery and controller are fine; the changeover has not moved the load across: a contactor, sensing or breaker fault. See ATS and changeover problems.

Can you repair the generator at our Parktown suite without disturbing patients?

Yes. The set is isolated for the repair while the rooms stay on mains. Only the transfer test touches the fridges and equipment, and that is booked before opening or after the last patient; we work 24/7.

Our Houghton generator has not run since winter and now will not start. Is it the battery?

Usually the battery or its charger, with old diesel close behind: condensation gathers in a standing tank and sediment chokes the filter. We test the battery under crank, then the charger, then the fuel.

Do you repair home standby sets in Parktown West, Westcliff, Saxonwold and Forest Town?

Yes. The usual call there is a silent diesel or gas set that stood too long beside the garage, so we bring battery, charger and fuel parts; see home generator services.
