Repairs

Generator faults we fix in Ormonde and Aeroton

Voltage comes first here: a set that sags or trips as a welder or compressor starts. Then changeovers that leave a floor dark, yard-tank fuel, dust-packed radiators, flat batteries at units that seldom run and controller alarms at the venues.

Local conditions

Old works near town, mini-units out at Aeroton

Booysens is one of the city’s oldest industrial areas and Ophirton beside it began as a suburb among the mine dumps, so near town a set stands wherever an old works has room: a yard corner or a passage between buildings.

Out at Aeroton the stock is mainly industrial: warehouses, factories and mini-units, where a landlord’s set on a fenced plinth often serves a whole row and the tenant who calls may not hold its keys.

Response

On site in Ormonde and Aeroton in 1–2 hours

Technicians on site in 1–2 hours, 24/7. Aeroton is bounded by the N1 Western Bypass, the N12 Southern Bypass, Rand Show Road and Nasrec Road, and Selby adjoins the CBD, so a technician comes off the bypasses or out of town. Say which gate to use and whether the set is on a locked plinth or in a plant room.

Until we arrive, check only the fuel gauge, main breaker, emergency stop and controller screen. Do not crank a set that fires and dies; leave the changeover panel and fuel lines closed. WhatsApp the nameplate, controller and hour meter so the right parts come along; emergency generator repair covers a call after the day shift.

Every make

The makes we repair along the belt

We Service & Repair All Generator Brands. On this belt that mostly means three-phase industrial sets: FG Wilson and Cummins canopies, Perkins, Deutz and John Deere engines, Stamford or Mecc Alte alternators and Deep Sea Electronics, ComAp or SmartGen controllers. Mini-units and workshops run smaller silent diesels from Kipor, Bundu Power, Pramac and Mac Afric; the motor trade keeps Honda-engined petrol portables for hand tools. See our brand pages.

Prevention

Why a set on this belt fails twice

A set that stops twice was only half fixed: the welder that dragged the voltage down still hangs off one phase, the yard tank is still undrained, the charger that cooked the battery still on the wall. We fix the fault and note the rest.

Servicing clears it: our Ormonde and Aeroton generator service and maintenance page covers the visit at a works, a mini-unit park or a venue and the plans plant managers run. Generator repairs sets out how a fault is found; the same technicians cover Industria and Crown Mines, the Johannesburg CBD and Soweto, and across Johannesburg.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Our Aeroton warehouse set runs but half the floor stays dark. Why?

Usually a lost phase: a contactor pole that let go, a tripped generator breaker or a loose alternator terminal. Switch those machines off and call; see ATS and changeover problems.

Our works set drops out when the big compressor starts. Is it too small?

Possibly. A direct-on-line compressor draws several times its running current and drags the voltage down. We measure the start against the rating and say whether to stagger loads or size up; see the kVA sizing guide.

Can you repair a venue generator at Nasrec during an event build-up?

Yes, 24/7. Tell us the gate, what the venue needs from contractors and the hour the set can be stopped, and we work around the event.

Our venue set shows a controller alarm and will not reset. Can we clear it?

Note the alarm text and stop pressing reset: a shutdown alarm protects the engine. We read the log, fix the cause and reset it; see controller alarms explained.
